Translator Michael Favala Goldman picked up the memoir GIFT by renowned Danish writer Tove Ditlevsen in the Copenhagen Airport and made it into a Penguin Classic in 2019. He will read from his translation of GIFT (Dependency) and discuss his struggle with this unvarnished chronicle of Ditlevsen’s four failed marriages, two back alley abortions and a near-fatal addiction to opioids while she was becoming a best-selling author. This gripping story made Best of 2019 Lists in The Irish Times and The Guardian. It will be published in the US by FSG in 2020.
